We’re happy to welcome Meike Wortel and Pietro Gadaleta at the Barcelona Collaboratorium, both as sabbatical visitors.

Meike Wortel is an Assistant Professor in Evolutionary Systems Biology at the University of Amsterdam. Her research combines theory, mathematical modelling, and quantitative experiments to understand how microbial communities evolve and persist over time — including key questions around microbiome dynamics and the evolution of antibiotic resistance.

Pietro is Meike’s PhD student at the University of Amsterdam. He studies ecological feedbacks in the evolution of antibiotic resistance in E. coli using mathematical modelling.
